Top 10 Relationship Tips

March 18th 2009 10:10

Starting a new relationship is easy but keeping that relationship fun, exciting, and happy is a whole other ball game that actually takes a little work so that both parties in the relationship are happy. Below are 10 dating and relationship tips that were gathered by By Lauren Denigan who works for Cosmopolitan.

1. Act Out of Character- Once you get int o a steady relationship, things can get boring, so once in a while break the pattern and do something different. Whether that means go out versus stay in, or just say something in a different tone than you normally would. For instance, if you usually yell or start a fight when your partner doesn't do something he/she's supposed to do, be nice about it instead of catch an attitude. See what happens.

2. Get in Touch a Lot- Basically, stroke your partner's arm while watching a movie. Just include simple acts of touching to show your affection. It will reinforce your affection for your partner, and he/she will definitely take note.

3. Take Turns Talking- Make sure that you listen to your partner while he/she talks. You can prevent arguments by just listening to what your partner has to say before jumping to conclusions. Make sure that you both have a chance to state what you're thinking or how you feel.

4. Find the Intersection- Find a common ground when making decisions together. It's a give and take situation, so make sure that you both are able to come to some sort of agreement.

5. Be More Positive Than Negative- Try to make two positive statements for every negative one. Always start with a positive statement and always end with a positive statement; keep your negative statements in the middle of the two, like an Oreo.

6. Echo Each Other- Repeat the important parts of the conversation back to your partner when having a discussion so that your partner knows that he/she was heard.

7. Take a Time-Out- When his/her little kinks starts to bug you, instead of getting annoyed and start picking at your partner, take a break. Go out to the store, the mall, movies. Just get away for a minute.

8. Have His Back- Even if you don't fully agree with your partner in a situation, you want to be on his side. You don't have to say, "you were right," but at least hear what he/she has to say and support him/her no matter what the situation is or who it's against.

9. Spend a Little Money on Each Other- You don't have to get extravagant, but a small just-because gift will be very thoughtful and appreciated by your partner.

10. Be a Good Date- When things start to get dull, make them interesting. Think outside of the box and find something to do together that is out of the ordinary. Instead of dinner and a movie, go to a concert.
