Sunless Self Sun Tanning Products

It's always nice to have a nice bronze glow during the summer months, and heck it's not so bad in the winter months, either, but it can be a pain to sit outside and tan in the natural sunlight and plain expensive to use a tanning bed. Plus, natural sunlight has a number of health disadvantages and artificial UV rays from tanning beds are even worse. The nice alternative is a spray on tan of just any kind of self tanning that you can do at home via a lotion, spray, or foam.
You can go to the tanning parlor and pay out the bum for a nice spray on tan, or you can purchase a self tanner at the store and do the same thing. You just want to make sure that you purchase a product that will actually work as the bottle claims.
Self spray on tanners affect the stratum corneum, or the horny layer, which is the outermost layer of the skin, so you don't have to worry about skin damage. You just have to remember that even though most of the self tanning products contain added sunscreen, that you apply more sunscreen when you plan on going out to further protect your skin.
When looking for a sunless tanning product, you'll want to make sure that the lotion contains dihydroxyacetone (DHA), as that is the active ingredient that will actually cause a color change. DHA is a colorless sugar that interacts with dead skin cells and cause the bronze look that will generally last about 5-7 days from the initial application, which brings to question, how long do the self tanners leave a bronze glow?
Well, because every day, millions of dead skin cells are worn away from the surface of your skin, and every 35 to 45 days you have a whole new epidermis, the self tanners generally fade pretty quickly. So, in order to keep a full tan, you'll probably want to apply the self tanning lotion daily, or a self tanning spray twice a week (every 3 days) in order to maintain your tan.
As for the products, there are a number that you can choose from. Coppertone has the Quick Tanning lotion that was probably one of the first self tanning products released to the market.
If it's been a while since you've tried a self tanning product, don't worry about the nice orange glow you used to get because there has been a great deal of advancement to self tanners and bronzers. Most of them actually take full effect within 45 minutes to an hour once fully dried, and in that quick time you'll have a bronzed glow as though you spent say 3 hours outside.
