First Signs of Osteoporosis
October 8th 2011 18:33
As a woman, it's very important that you are aware of the signs of osteoporosis, so that you can speak with your physician before it starts to evolve.
Well, unfortunately, most women do not have any symptoms of the illness, so sometimes it can be hard to tell if you have it or not.
One of the early signs is loss of height because of a curvature or compressed spine, which is caused by weakened vertebrae. Basically, the vertebrae weaken and start to collapse, causing a loss of height.
With this, there may be some pain or aching, but other than that, there are generally few signs of early osteoporosis.
What you really need to pay attention to is what may make you more prone to the disease.
* A woman.
* Over 40.
* Caucasian or of Asian descent (more prone than African American).
* Postmenopausal.
* Diet low in calcium consumption.
* Intestinal problem that causes calcium from being properly absorbed.
* Hyperthyroidism.
* Lack of exercise.
* Thin body frame.
* Medications.
* Smoke.
* Drink too much alcohol.
* Family history of osteoporosis
* History of fragile bones.
