People Are True Vegetarians, And Evolved Meat Eaters
May 25th 2010 13:58
This may be a bit controversial, but believe it or not more studies show that humans were created and born vegetarians. People can get all the nutrition and proteins they need from plant material. People can be healthier without meat-proteins in their diet. People were created to be vegetarians.
'But I like meat.' 'Meat is the best.' 'You have to have meat in your diet to be health.'
These statements are actually false. With a varied diet and supplements (if needed), a vegetarian will live longer and be healthier than someone who readily eats meat with each meal.
Looking at the chart within the link below, you can actually see how humans have more characteristics with herbivores than carnivores, and omnivores actually have more characteristics with carnivores than herbivores.
But, I have to have meat.... No, you really don't. You just like it. Humans have evolved to become meat eaters. Humans have to have their meat cooked just right in order to be able to properly digest meat. This is not a sign of a true carnivore or creature that was created to eat meat.
That doesn't mean that you have to stop eating meat. For some, it's just nice to know that in the very beginning, people were not designed to be meat eaters or to have the ability to properly digest meat.
Whether you believe in vegetarianism for religious reasons, health reasons, ethical reasons, or whatever other reason, you'll find that as long as you vary your diet and watch appropriate levels of vitamins within the different vegetables and enriched foods, you should be able to live a full and healthy lifestyle. Vegetarians can maintain blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure, and weight, in order to successfully have a healthy and active lifestyle.
But, on the other hand, if you choose to be a meat eater, definitely take into mind how we evolved and what we are meant to be… Eaters of vegetables, fruits, and grains...

It's very interesting and helpful to Vegetarians when confronted with the "humans are made to eat meat argument".

Yank, I'm the same way. I only eat poultry and fish, so I am considered a semi-vegetarian. When I was a kid, I asked my mom if I could be a vegetarian, and she told me no. As I got older, I was able to convince them I wasn't eating beef, then no pork. Half the time, I still eat my veggies and grains before I get to my meat, just so that I'm full and don't have to eat even chicken. I see myself getting further away from meat. It's not something I crave. Yep, if you think about any true carnivore (lions, tigers, etc) they don't get sick from raw meat; people do, and we've always had to cook it in order to be able to digest it. Our bodies aren't built the same as a carnivore; intestines and stomach acids are completely different.

I actually totally disagree with this post and I'd be interested to get references to some of the studies that point to humans being created vegetarian.
Firstly, meat contains complete proteins that help the human body to function better.
While nuts and pulses contain protein in them, they are mostly only partial not containing the full requirements of the human body and even the fact that you say:
[QUOTE]With a varied diet and supplements (if needed)..., [QUOTE]
The fact that supplements may be needed in the diet shows something is lacking in a vegetarian feast for the way our body functions.
One friend of mine who is vegetarian suffers from anaemia due to lack of iron in her blood, a mineral easily accessed in meat.
Another vegetarian co-worker preferred to get a needle to get his iron requirements. All he needed was a juicy steak.
Run your fingers along your teeth and note that our teeth are shaped similar to that of carnivores. The long eye tooth is there to help rip meat apart.
And I can say from personal experience, if I haven't eaten meat for a while, I do crave it.
Cravings, where used correctly, are what help us to ensure that we get the right balance of nutrition in our bodies.
A personal example of that is, I don't drink enough milk (naughty I know) and there are times I just want to attack a large milkshake because I believe my body is telling me to get some calcium into me.
Pregnant women who don't get enough iron and protein in their diet have been known to crave meat.
The body is a very clever and efficient machine when looked after.
Where meat makes up an unhealthy diet is in overconsumption or it's too fatty which can lead to heart disease and obesity.
Yes, vegetarians can be healthy and sometimes it does us good to abstain from meat for a while as in the above paragraph but I would be hard pressed into believing we were created vegetarian when animals were also created and their meat is such a good source of nutrition for us and we were given the right tools (incisor teeth) to eat them with.
Take care,
Samantha
