How Should I Feel if My Boyfriend has Many Girl Friends

June 27th 2009 13:33
Sometimes guys just have a lot of female friends. Some even have more friends that are girls than friends that are guys. Some guys just get along better with females. There's really nothing wrong about it, as long as he's not abusing the situation and causing problems in the relationship because of the extra female friends.

If he's spending more time with you and more time talking to you than with them, then don't worry, but if he's talking to them on the phone and hanging out with them frequently, more so than he is with you, then there may be cause for a problem.

It's natural to be jealous, but you want to be careful of being overly jealous, which could start more problems than your boyfriend having female friends.

For the most part, no one can tell you have to feel or how to react, as it will all depend on your relationship and the strength thereof. The best advice that one can give you is to calmly talk to your boyfriend about the situation, and have an open discussion about it.

After posting my own blog, your's caught my eye. As the father of a young woman, I'd like to give you some advice. If you are talking about a boy friend, then your advice is fine. If you are talking about a boyfriend, and he is hanging out with other females, dump him; he isn't worth the time and effort.

Communicating and having an open discussion are probably the first steps. Then you'll just have to trust your instincts about the situation...

Schmoozer, I'm glad you came across my blog. I'm talking about a boyfriend, hence the words being combined. And, there really isn't a reason to dump him just because he has many female friends, unless you have a huge problem with it and he refuses to make any compromises.

Lara, communication is the key.

I totally disagree with Schmoozer! There's absolutely nothing wrong with your boyfriend having a lot of female friends, if anything it makes him a better person for not adhering to the homosocial, 'women are only here to service men' point of view. My boyfriend has a heap of close female friends, and they treat him like a brother, asking him for relationship advice and so on. As such, I don't feel threatened in the least.

Besides, I would have no right to complain, as most of my close friends are male.

I have a problem with this for a few reasons:
1) look around, at the couples you know. How many have cheated or been cheated on?
2) I worked with my boyfriend of 4.5 years, in a store of girls and few guys. Some nights I couldn't make it to the group fun and didn't think too much about it. Months later, I've found that my boyfriend was dating a common friend for all those months in between.
3) Men who put themselves into situations where they are vulnerable to preying women are at that much more of a risk of cheating than the AVERAGE dopey man. No offense!
