Asians tend to be generally thin because they have the "skinny gene". It's daunting to go to a buffet and see them fill their plates up several times over and not gain an ounce.

I'd like to respectfully disagree with both the premise of this posting and the above comment, but there have been studies published showing that the slimness associated with Asiatic people is a function of a diet rich in vegetables, with limited amounts of high caloric density foods. When people from China, Japan and other Asiatic nations adopt a traditional Western diet, they have the same weight problems as people of other ethnic backgrounds. Hi Sam, you're welcome to disagree and I don't doubt your studies but
I live in Taipei and I see what people eat first hand everyday. I agree that they do eat vegetables but I also witness a healthy consumption of meats ladled with heavy oil and sauces loaded with salt.
