Is Soy Healthy?

July 28th 2010 15:19
Like most foods, there are benefits and problems associated with consumption. Soy, is no different. Soy can provide a great benefit to human health, but the same ingredient within soy, can also cause health concerns, such as cancer.

Basically, when it comes to whether or not you want to consume a little more soy in your diet, you'll need to consider the pros and cons.

A few pros can include:
* reduce high blood pressure
* prevent heart disease
* increase bone mineral density and prevent loss
* relieve PMS symptoms
* treat diabetic nerve problems
* reduce asthma
* improve memory

Although, these benefits may seem great, it's important to know the potential problems with consuming extra soy in the diet.

* interfere with growth of children
* cause the body to need more Vitamin D
* hinders B12 absorption
* increase the risk of kidneys stones
* increase abnormal tissue growth in uterus lining

And, of course you have soy related food allergies that can pose a whole other world of health concerns that a person with a soy allergy needs to consider.

Energy Drinks are Unhealthy

July 26th 2010 13:11
Even though I know how unhealthy they are, I am guilty of drinking a Red Bull on occasion. I tend to find that I don't sleep well at night, and there are some days in which I need a pick-me-up to help me get through the day being productive.

The problem though, is that energy drinks have loads of caffeine and sugar that just aren't good for you. The amount of caffeine in an average energy drink equals to about a cup of coffee or more than one 12-ounce soda.

Energy drinks on occasion are fine, but if you drink them regularly, they can cause a few health concerns that you should be aware of. The caffeine can dehydrate you, so you'll want to make sure to drink water throughout the day to help compensate the diuretic. The ephedrine that's in energy drinks can lead to heart problems. Energy drinks can cause complications for pregnant and nursing women, as well as children.

There have been many people taken to the hospital due to the effects caused by drinking energy drinks all the time. It's not the drink, but the ingredients that cause other problems for you.

Soda Drinks Are Not Healthy

July 19th 2010 15:17
Whether you call it soda, pop, or coke, these caffeinated drinks are not healthy for you, but so many people drink soda drinks because they taste good and come in tons of different flavors. They're fairly cheap, especially if you buy the two litter bottles, and pretty easy to find in almost any gas station, grocery store, pharmacy, or retail store.

But, drinking soda is not healthy for children or adults. Once in a while is fine, as is in moderation, but drinking soda several times a day is not healthy.

The carbonation, sugar, and caffeine, are all active ingredients in soda that are unhealthy for you. Carbonation can decrease your blood calcium levels. The sugar can cause problems with teeth, as well as being fattening. Caffeine can easily dehydrate you, causing kidney problems.

There are studies that show that by drinking carbonated drinks like Coke, Pepsi, Fanta, etc. you are increasing risks of tooth decay, nutritional depletion, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.

Drinking Soda is Bad for You

Once in a while and with a good bit of moderation, soda drinks are fine, but there are many better alternatives to quinch your thirst.

This may be a bit controversial, but believe it or not more studies show that humans were created and born vegetarians. People can get all the nutrition and proteins they need from plant material. People can be healthier without meat-proteins in their diet. People were created to be vegetarians.

'But I like meat.' 'Meat is the best.' 'You have to have meat in your diet to be health.'

These statements are actually false. With a varied diet and supplements (if needed), a vegetarian will live longer and be healthier than someone who readily eats meat with each meal.

Looking at the chart within the link below, you can actually see how humans have more characteristics with herbivores than carnivores, and omnivores actually have more characteristics with carnivores than herbivores.

But, I have to have meat.... No, you really don't. You just like it. Humans have evolved to become meat eaters. Humans have to have their meat cooked just right in order to be able to properly digest meat. This is not a sign of a true carnivore or creature that was created to eat meat.

That doesn't mean that you have to stop eating meat. For some, it's just nice to know that in the very beginning, people were not designed to be meat eaters or to have the ability to properly digest meat.

Whether you believe in vegetarianism for religious reasons, health reasons, ethical reasons, or whatever other reason, you'll find that as long as you vary your diet and watch appropriate levels of vitamins within the different vegetables and enriched foods, you should be able to live a full and healthy lifestyle. Vegetarians can maintain blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure, and weight, in order to successfully have a healthy and active lifestyle.

But, on the other hand, if you choose to be a meat eater, definitely take into mind how we evolved and what we are meant to be… Eaters of vegetables, fruits, and grains...

It's true that there are some foods that you can eat for better fitness. Popeye did it, so why can't we? Just because he's a cartoon, that doesn't mean that there wasn't any truth to spinach helping muscle tissue repair itself faster after a workout. The only difference is that, you'd have to eat about 2 pounds of iron-packed vegetables every day to see Popeye results.
