Valkyrie is Not a Date Movie

So my boyfriend and I went out last night, and decided to see a movie. He'd been wanting to go to the cheap $1.50 theater all weekend since we've seen all the good movies at the regular theater, and we finally had a chance to go.
We wanted to see "Yes Man" with Jim Carrey, but it wasn't playing anymore, so we decided to see "Valkyrie" with Tom Cruise. Now, it's a pretty good movie, I'll definitely give it that, but it's just not the best date movie.
I could see a group of guys going to watch the movie, but war movies, especially war movies about Hitler just aren't the best date movie. Now, for a female, I'll have to admit I do like war movies, but I find them more along the lines of good movies to rent and watch at home versus go to the theater and watch.
Plus, it's kind of a mood killer to find that they didn't succeed in killing Hitler, but of course that was assumed when going into the movie that Hitler wasn't going to die. I mean look at history and how that went- tons of attempts but all failures...
But, anyway, I guess I was hoping for more of an upbeat ending. I mean, take "Taken" with Liam Neeson, for instance. That's a slightly better date movie, even though the girl gets kidnapped, sold, and nearly prostuted out. It had a happy ending, and movies with happy endings are much better date movies.
So, all-in-all "Valkyrie" is a good movie, but it's just not a movie that makes a good date.
