How Much Caffeine is in Your Coffee

April 3rd 2009 17:55
Caffeine is one of those things that is bad for you one day and healthy for you another, but the same goes for just about anything these days. Caffeine is a naturally occurring in plant leaves, and it's probably one of the most studied ingredients found in beverages and food since it is included in a number of different items and is consumed in some form or another by many.

Coffee, tea, various soft drinks, and chocolate, include the most amount of caffeine, but you'll find that the amount of caffeine that you actually consume will vary on your portion size and with coffee and tea, the plant that is used will also vary the amount of caffeine.

In general, caffeine is thought to have an affect on heart disease, hydration, addiction, fertility, pregnancy, and miscarriage. It's also considered potentially problematic when consumed by children and teenagers.

As for coffee, an 8-ounce cup of coffee contains about 65-160mg of caffeine, which is a lot of caffeine, especially considering that many people drink multiple cups of coffee each morning. So, when you take your morning cup of coffee and read the paper or your first round of emails, consider how much caffeine you're starting the day with.
